Authors: Win over readers with the right giveaways!

PageCurl’s Halloween Facebook Hop kicked off awhile back, and with over 130 authors participating and over 1.2K people “attending”, we thought this might be a good audience for a little market research for authors. After all, it’s not uncommon for authors to participate in all sorts of hops, blitzes, tours, takeovers, contests, and more in which they have to doll out prizes for the winners. But what do readers want?

We wanted to know, so we posted and asked this in the group:

We received a flood of responses, and you can always go check them out for yourself by visiting the post here, but here are the main results:

  • Signed paperbacks
  • Mystery packs
  • Swag (pins, badges, postcards, bookmarks, mugs, shirts, pens, notepads, magnets, key chains, jewelry, ChapStick, tote bags, etc., signed or not)
  • Gift cards
  • Audio book codes
  • eBooks
  • Candy
  • Interaction with the authors

Who wouldn’t want to win any or all of that? Authors, if you’re heading to a signing or event, now you’ve got some good ideas on what readers would like to win for prizes. Every Friday on our Facebook page, we’ll be offering two books to readers. We’ll announce the genre of the books, and a short pitch, but readers won’t know the author or the title until they win the book. Call it taking a chance, a mystery prize, or a blind date with a book, but we call it FUN.
